A Seed Named Gavin

A Seed Named Gavin
By: Gavin Allison
October 2013

Once upon a time there was a tiny seed named Gavin. I'm the seed named Gavin. I worked day after day to sprout. I never knew, but I was getting closer and closer to popping out of the soil.
Day after day, month after month, I grew. I was getting old. People put fences around me. Next thing I knew, I was in a backyard. I watched the kids in that house play in the backyard. I got bigger and bigger everyday. About fourt years later, I was a teenager. I could see a lot of stuff. For example, other houses, buildings, and roads. About eight years later I was an adult tree. One day I woke up because I felt burning on my trunk. I looked down and they were cutting my trunk off with a chain saw. My trunk fell and I was  dead. My bark sunk into the ground. Day after day, the bark got deeper and deeper into the soil. The bark got moldier and moldier until one day, it turned into decomposed.

The Day I Went To North Carolina -- By Gavin, Grade 2

One day my mom woke me up. She said, "It's time to go to North Carolina." I got dressed, got into the car, and off we went. I finally got to my friend's house. Our friend screamed to me. We went on the slide. We started playing and then we had to go to bed. The next day we left to go to the hotel. We made it. We watched TV and had fun. Next, it was night. We had to go to bed. The next day we went to the beach house. All of our cousins were there. We had a fun time at North Carolina. And that's my story of the time I went to North Carolina.

Memoirs of a Second Grader -- By Gavin

Memoirs of a Second Grader
By: Gavin

I ate two bagels this morning. I learned how to make a snake with my hands. It was awesome. I played basketball this morning. I played tag this morning. It was fun. I heard the best fish story ever at school.

Pot of Gold -- by Gavin

I want to find a pot of gold because I will be rich and I will be able to buy toys, video games, fish, animals, and all of that stuff.

The Allison Weekly: 3/4/13-3/10/13

This week:

We got my oil changed and spent an extensive amount of time in the Infiniti dealership waiting room testing out all the different types of hot chocolate and coffees.
The tooth fairy came again!
And Logan made 100 AR points and was featured on the morning news!

Random Living

On the coldest Florida winter mornings, Daddy lights a fire before the boys wake up. They love to come out, sleep still in their eyes, and warm up by the fire while I cook breakfast. It's a simple thing really, but it's the smallest memories that I want to treasure always.
Keegan is so big. He uses our headphones and ipads to watch his own movies.
I got a little girl-time with my main girl, Ella. She chose Gator colors for our nail-painting session, but I still love her. After all, she's only four and doesn't know any better yet.
Keegan makes stromboli. Italian cooking is in his blood.
Fort on a chilly, gloomy day. Another simple memory.
Gavin's crocodile diorama.
Keegan loves Mama's FSU hoody and Nutra-Grain bars.
He has his own sense of style.
One awesome Family Night we enjoyed dinner out and then went to the top of the capital It's so pretty at night. The boys were impressed, but were even more enamored by the Governor's entourage of Escalades parked downstairs by Daddy's car.

Future Gap Model

And a future MLB player.

Marriage Advice

Marriage Advice
By: Gavin

(as part of a school writing assignment, Gavin was asked to write about
his marriage advice for his engaged intern)

To make your husband happy, maybe cook his favorite foods or let him sleep in.

To make your wife happy, let her go shopping and go to her hair salon and paint her nails.

Just an average day

Keegan wants to be so big like his brothers! Today he wanted to help Gavin with his math homework.

He dresses himself now. Some days, like today, it comes out great. Other days...not so much.

For instance...this one...
...or this fine outfit he picked out to go for a walk around our neighborhood.

But this is his standard daily outfit..cowboy boots, police jacket, "church shirt", Chuck E. Cheese medal, Tony Hawk hat, and sunglasses.

Back to the grind

And just like that, Christmas break came to screeching halt and we are back to school! Boo! But it was a fun while it lasted. This month we are looking forward to a visit from Gram and Gramps and a break from ALL activities, including karate. Logan is active in Student Council and has several upcoming service projects. Gavin's reading goal for this semester is 20 AR points and he is well on his way! And next week is Keegan's week to be the "Star Student" so I will be sending in special items for him to share with the class. In the new year, we are focusing on getting back to Allison family basics. For us, that means more homecooked meals, eating together as a family, long walks around the neighborhood, bike rides, and runs with Mom. I love this cool family of mine!

Bucket List #2 -- Go Fishin'

We ventured over to Lake Hall (one of our favorite swimming holes) to participate in a city-sponsored Kids Fishing Day. They worked the kids through various stations (knot tying, safety, baiting the hook, etc.) with a grand finale of fishing off the dock using hot dogs as bait. No, we didn't catch anything, but Logan will tell you that he "ALMOST" caught a fish like TONS of times!

Gavin wins the casting contest! He's a natural!

And Logan wins a door prize! I wish I could say it was that Allison family luck, but we all know it's because that Lucky Coddington came along for the ride!

Worm gruntin'. Yes, this is real. It's a work of art down here.

See...I told you it was real!

After we grew tired of fishing, we enjoyed some fun in the sun, had a picnic lunch, and cooled off in the lake.

The boys met some friends and quickly conquered their boat!

Our Summer Bucket List appears to be off to a great start.
