We tried to do the Boy Scout thing. Thought it might be fun for the boys to learn a little of that kind of stuff and make some new friends. So, Jay went to the informational meeting and it was then that we realized the (excessive) amount of fundraising the Boy Scouts participate in, the time commitment, and the cost involved. None of this would bother me much if they were also having lots of fun camping, learning how to tie knots, and figuring out how to navigate themselves through a forest. But the Boy Scouts around here seemed to be heavy on the fundraising and light on the fun stuff, and so the B.U.C.K.S. were born.
The BUCKS group is the brainchild of our friend, Troy. He is a local firefighter and father to Jonathan, Logan's BFF. Troy, Jay and a couple of other fathers didn't like what they saw at the Boy Scouts meeting, so Troy decided to create his own group for fathers and their sons. He also runs a summer camp for children that are bun victims, so this fell right up his alley. While I can't tell you exactly what the BUCKS acronym stands for, I can tell you that the goal is heavy on fun and adventure and low on cost. That's my kind of group! In fact, I have taken on the role of Official BUCKS Shopper Mom where I can coupon and find great deals for all of their camping trips!
They embarked on their first camping trip back in October. The Allison's are clearly the city folk of the bunch. We don't own sleeping bags or tents. We don't survive well without air conditioning without a fair amount of complaining. We don't ** gasp ** hunt OR fish! But we do know how to make new friends and have fun!
