Chick-fil-a is one of the coolest places (and the food is good too)! I'm sorry if you don't have one where you live because it's really delicious. Since we have Spring/Summer birthdays in our house, Nana and Papa have been taking the boys to Chick-fil-a at the beginning of each month for their "birthday party night". Cake, cows, chicken, and coupons. My favorite being the latter. So this is Logan's month for a birthday celebration as he is about to turn the big 7.
On a very sad note, the boys lost their first friend in a tragic accident on March 10th. Three months later, this is still difficult for me to think about, let alone write about. Miles was a friend of theirs from TaeKwonDo. They had grown close over the Christmas holidays when they all participated in a winter camp at the Dragon's Den. Spending 10 hours a day together might do that to you. Miles was a good friend and was also Logan's primary sparring buddy. As an adult, he was just one of those kids that stood out in a crowd. He was likable, spontaneous, incorrigible, unpredictable, and very, very cute. We all had to take turns "keeping Miles safe" lest his sudden impulses get the better of him. More than once, I found myself using my body as a barricade to keep him from running out onto the busy street post-class (a.k.a. following hours and hours and days and day of disciplined confinement as I imagine Miles must have thought of it).
The kids were at Disney when we heard the news, so we had a few days to think about what we wanted to say to them. Three months later, they still talk about him frequently and inquire as to what he might be up to in heaven (he's doing his karate and making trouble with a smile on his face, I imagine).
As they were leaving Chick-fil-a on this day, Logan asked for a permanent marker. He wanted to write something on his birthday balloon and "send it up to heaven for Miles to play with". He wanted Miles to have a toy just in case they don't have balloons in heaven. They still miss their little friend so much and Jay and I struggle to understand why His plan sometimes doesn't match up with the way we envision it.
