Eight years later and still going strong. We are reminiscing today about November 11, 2001. Thank you to our friends and family for making it so special for us. It was so much fun, we thought we'd do it again! Thinking of a 10-year family reunion cruise!

vaccination room of TERROR!
We recently took (read: forced) the kids to get their H1N1 vaccine. I know this is a hot topic of conversation, with many parents taking a firm stance in not getting this vaccine for their little ones. However, having recently had my MONTH long bout with swine flu followed by pneumonia, and knowing just how sick it made me, I really can't imagine any of my sweet babies suffering in this way.
So, the whole family trucked down to the Health Department right after school to stand in line and get our shots. Initially, the process ran smoothly. We entered the building, filled out paperwork, received a number, and waited patiently until we were called. But that's where the sanity and logical reasoning ended.
Once our number was called, we were shuttled like herds of cattle to various rooms within the building. In the second room, we met as a family in a private room with one of the nurses. She slowly and methodically explained the vaccine itself and asked various questions about our individual allergies and medical histories. We were then shuttled into a third room to wait again before being called in to what we now refer to as the Vaccination Room of TERROR (V.R.T.). As our children peered into the V.R.T. and witnessed the children inside receiving their vaccines, a look of pure shock and horror washed over their otherwise brave faces. It is important to note here that my boys take great pride in possessing bravery (and manliness!) while in doctor's offices, particularly while receiving their immunizations. For this reason, I guess I didn't register the potential impact this observation might have on them. A minute later, we entered the V.R.T. where we continued to observe a multitude of screaming, panic-stricken, traumatized small children receiving their shots. I did my best to assure the boys that these children weren't brave like them...they were scared and the shot wouldn't hurt any more than a mosquito bite.
Now it's our turn....Keegan cried as soon as it was over - still too young to understand what was going on. Logan fought back tears and seemed uneasy, but acted courageously.
Then it was Gavin's turn........
He was having NONE of it! Gavin completely freaked out and was in rare form. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen him that uncontrollable. His faced turned beet red and each time he screamed, you could see a vein sticking out of his neck. Behind me, a mom stood in the doorway with her child and I heard her comforting him by saying, "He's just not as brave as you. Don't worry. It won't hurt a bit". It took the help of three adults (one was Daddy), but Gavin was vaccinated a minute later.
When we finally escaped to the car, Gavin said, "I was just acting. That was just for pretend", and we just went along with it.
Now what I want to know is who's the genius that had the bright idea of putting these poor children in the individual rooms for consultation and the mass room for receiving the vaccination!?!?!?!??

when brothers collide
This is what happens when brothers collide while racing to clean up their toys so they could play Wii. Gavin emerged completely unscathed. You knew the Wii had to be involved in some way, shape, or form. That's all we talk about around this house.
Day 1

Day 2
He didn't want to go to school today because knew everyone would ask him about it...and they did.

what a fort!
When was the last time you built a fort? Papa, with his Woot addiction, bought this ready-made fort from Kids Woot. They've come a long way since we were kids. No more pillows and blankets falling off the couch and leaking light into your fort. This one is virtually ruin-proof, and so much fun as you can see.

The Allison Weekly - Week of 10/12/2009
Highlights of our week:
Monday
I tried to go to the gym and quickly realized that I still have pneumonia. A trip to the doctor's office confirmed my suspicions, so I'm back to another round of antibiotics.
Tuesday
- Logan got his first Positive Action Award
- I spent $24 at Publix and saved $70!!!!!!
- Great-Nana joined us for playtime, Wii-time, and dinnertime.

Friday
- I met with Gavin's teacher for our first parent-teacher conference. She had great things to say about him, particularly that he's a good friend to everyone!
Saturday
I took a trip to Havana with the boys for their annual Pumpkin Festival. We met up with their friends, Callie and Leah, and braved the 50 degree weather in the name of candy and pony rides.
Sunday
We were too festivaled-out to do much of anything besides buy Sponge Bob Ice Cream from the ghetto van ice cream truck.

Betton Hills Fall Festival
We kicked off the weekend with a fun family night at the Betton Hills Annual Fall Festival.
What a mess this is. I really feel for the moms that I have to man this booth! So glad I was able to volunteer for the Pumpkin Roll. I spoke with one mom that said it took her days to get all the Krispy Kreme frosting out from under her nails!!!

happy list/sad list
As you can clearly see, Logan and Gavin are on the "happy list" and Daddy (who would not let Logan play any more Wii tonight) is on the "sad list".

Positive Action

So, Logan came home all excited that he got his first "Positive Action Award" and the following conversation ensued:
LOGAN: I got my first Positive Action Award today. Aren't you so proud of me?
ME: Of course I am, baby. What's a Positive Action Award?
LOGAN: It's when you do a Positive Action.
ME: Ok.....
LOGAN: And then they say your name on the TV and you get to go to the office and get something. And only two kids in the class got it.
ME: Cool! What'd you get?
LOGAN: Just this paper.
ME: Wow! Logan! It's a coupon for a free kids meal at Red Elephant!!!! (Now, I'm REALLY proud because I love coupons so much!)
LOGAN: Ok, good. So, we can all go there?
ME: Of course. We'll go this week.
LOGAN: Great-Nana, do you want to come too? And I'm gonna invite Nana, and Papa, and Keegan, and Daddy, and Gavin, and....
ME: Wait a minute! Who's paying for all this?
LOGAN: No one. I have a coupon!!!!
ME: (sigh...this is going to be one expensive dinner) So what'd you do to deserve it? What was your Positive Action?
LOGAN: I don't know. I don't remember.
Looks like they might need a little work on the effectiveness of their school-wide behavior program!

Birthday-isms
Summary of bloggable birthday moments today...
"Mama, why did God make it rain on your birthday? I mean, he knew it was your birthday 'cause he knows everyone in the whole world's birthday. So, why did he make it rain? The plants must have needed some water, I think. So he had to crunch all the ice in the world into rain to water the plants. 'Cause we only have drinking water on earth. So, that's why I guess. Dear God: Please, please, please don't make it rain on Mommy's birthday. That's not good And it's really been raining all day. So that must be enough rain."
Conversation between Gavin and Daddy:
GAVIN: "Daddy, I need you to get all your money for me."
JAY: "Why?"
GAVIN: "So I can buy Mommy some diamonds for her birthday!"
(Four years old and he already knows the way to a woman's heart!)
Sung in the car:
"Go Mama! It's your birthday!"
Logan notes the rainy day and converses with himself (even though it seems like he's talking to me, he's really just rambling to himself):
"Mama, why did God make it rain on your birthday? I mean, he knew it was your birthday 'cause he knows everyone in the whole world's birthday. So, why did he make it rain? Gavin asks:
"Where are you having your birthday, Mom? Zoinks or the Nick Hotel?"
ME: "Just at home with you guys."
GAVIN: "But why? You can't do that. Birthday's have to BE somewhere!"
Keegan says:
"MAMA! ELMO!!!!!!!!! MAMA! ELMO!!!!!!! MAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

we like money
While making a transaction at CVS yesterday the cashier asked if I wanted cash back (her nice way of saying, "pay attention to what the credit card scanner thing is asking you, lady!").
ME: No, thanks.
LOGAN: Yes, you do!!!!!
ME: No, I really don't.
LOGAN: But Mom! You DO want cash back! Cash is MONEY and we LIKE money!!!!
While the kid behind me in line snickered, I used this as a teaching opportunity. He listened for about two seconds and then ran off to admire the Peanut M & M statue nearby. Sigh.

The Allison Weekly - Week of 10/5/2009
Another busy week in the Allison house! I'm feeling a lot better, but still not 100%. I've been playing catch up at work and here around the house. This week, I had Logan's first Parent/Teacher conference. Mrs. Z. had only good things to say about my exceptionally smart, handsome, and sweet baby boy! Jay and I had the opportunity to be mystery shoppers at a chain restaurant in town. Gotta love that free food! He's such a cheap date!
On Saturday, we had Logan's first sleepover! Ok, so I admit that the mommies were enjoying some wine time, so the sleepover was only half-planned and depended on whether or not that third bottle was opened (it was).
